Abdullah bin Buraidah narrates from his father that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from a battle, a black slave-girl came to him and said: I had vowed that if Allah returned you victorious, I would play the drum before you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you have made a vow, then fine (play the drum), otherwise not. She began to play the drum. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and she kept playing. Other companions came, and she remained in that state. But when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came, she hid the drum under herself and put on her shawl. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Umar! Satan is afraid of you. I and these people were sitting here (she kept playing the drum), but when you entered, she did like this and this.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Although on this occasion it was permissible for the slave girl to beat the duff, and that is why the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam granted permission. This was due to the awe and majesty of Hazrat Umar radi Allahu anhu, which even the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would take into consideration.
