Hadith 5340

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever swears an oath on something, but then sees that another thing is better than it, then not doing the first thing will itself be the expiation for that oath.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In all authentic ahadith, in such a situation, the command is given to offer expiation (kaffarah) for the oath, as Imam Abu Dawud, after mentioning this hadith, said: “All the ahadith from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam are: ((And let him offer expiation for his oath)), except in matters that are of no consequence.” … All the ahadith are to this effect, that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: That person should offer expiation for his oath, except for those narrations which are not reliable.
