It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that two men brought their dispute to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). In the judgment, one man had to take an oath. He swore by Allah, besides whom there is no true deity, that the other man had nothing with him. Meanwhile, Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: This man is lying; the other has a right with him. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to give the other his due, and the expiation for his false oath is his recognition or testimony that Allah alone is the true deity.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is understood that at times the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would also make judgments in the light of revelation (wahy). A false oath is a major sin (kabirah), but Allah Ta‘ala forgave this man’s major sin due to the blessing of his recognition (ma‘rifah) of Lā ilāha illā Allah.
