Hadith 5286

عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّا كُنَّا نَبِيعُ سَرَارِيَّنَا وَأُمَّهَاتِ أَوْلَادِنَا وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِينَا حَيٌّ لَا يَرَى بِذَلِكَ بَأْسًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We used to sell our captives and ummahat al-awlad while the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was still alive among us, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not consider there to be any harm in it.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah radi Allahu anhu, he says: “We used to sell ummahat al-awlad during the time of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and during the caliphate of Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu, but when Umar radi Allahu anhu came (to power), he forbade us, so we refrained.” (Abu Dawud: 3954)
