عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّمَا عَبْدٍ كُوتِبَ عَلَى مِائَةِ أُوقِيَّةٍ فَأَدَّاهَا إِلَّا عَشْرَ أُوقِيَّاتٍ فَهُوَ رَقِيقٌ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a slave has been contracted for manumission for one hundred uqiyahs and he has paid all except ten uqiyahs, he is still a slave.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The agreement between a master and a slave that the slave will pay a certain amount and thereby attain freedom is called mukatabah, and a slave in the period of this agreement is called a mukatab.
