Hadith 5279

Umrah narrates that Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) fell ill and her illness became prolonged. In Madinah Munawwarah, a physician arrived who did not have complete knowledge of medicine. Sayyida’s nephews went to him and mentioned her ailment. He said: “By Allah! From the condition you have described of this lady, it appears that magic has been done to her, and the magic has been done by her slave-girl.” When they questioned the slave-girl, she said: “Yes, I did magic. My intention was that Sayyida would pass away and I would become free.” In fact, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) had made this slave-girl a *mudabbara* (a slave promised freedom after the master’s death). Then Sayyida said: “Sell this slave-girl to a person who is the strictest with his slave-girls, and spend her price on a slave-girl of the same kind.”
