Hadith 5274

عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَضَى أَنْ مَنْ أَعْتَقَ شِرْكًا لَهُ فِي مَمْلُوكٍ فَعَلَيْهِ جَوَازُ عِتْقِهِ إِنْ كَانَ لَهُ مَالٌ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) decreed that whoever frees his share in a slave, then the freedom of the entire slave will be incumbent upon him, provided that he possesses wealth.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … If a person frees his share from a jointly-owned slave, and he possesses the wealth to free the entire slave, then the slave will be freed from his wealth, so that he may attain complete virtue.
