It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Khaybar, there were two slaves with him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave one slave to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Do not beat him, for I have been forbidden from beating those who pray, and I have seen him performing prayer. The words of the narrator ‘Affan are as follows: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Khaybar and there were two slaves with him. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Please give us a servant as well. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take whichever of them you wish. But Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You choose for me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take this one, for I saw him performing prayer upon returning from Khaybar, and I have been forbidden from beating those who pray. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the other slave to Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Accept a good will regarding him. He set him free. Then when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him what became of the slave, he said: O Messenger of Allah! You commanded me to accept a good will regarding him, so for that reason I set him free.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Islam has emphasized justice, fairness, brotherhood, and equality to the highest degree, and has given the greatest consideration to the respect of humanity. If we consider apparent rights, then slaves are the people of the lowest status in society, but Islam has commanded good treatment towards them as well, and has also clarified that this treatment should be such that whatever the owners themselves eat and wear, they should provide the same to their slaves to eat and wear. They should keep the aspect of forgiveness and forbearance broad in their dealings with them, and should not take undue advantage of their compulsion and subordination, because they are, in terms of religion and being human, brothers to their masters.
