عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الْخَيْلُ ثَلَاثَةٌ فَفَرَسٌ لِلرَّحْمَنِ وَفَرَسٌ لِلْإِنْسَانِ وَفَرَسٌ لِلشَّيْطَانِ فَأَمَّا فَرَسُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَالَّذِي يُرْبَطُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَعَلَفُهُ وَرَوْثُهُ وَبَوْلُهُ وَذَكَرَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ وَأَمَّا فَرَسُ الشَّيْطَانِ فَالَّذِي يُقَامَرُ أَوْ يُرَاهَنُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَمَّا فَرَسُ الْإِنْسَانِ فَالْفَرَسُ يَرْتَبِطُهَا الْإِنْسَانُ يَلْتَمِسُ بَطْنَهَا فَهِيَ تَسْتُرُ مِنْ فَقْرٍ
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Horses are of three kinds: one horse is for the Most Merciful (Rahman), one is for a human, and one is for Satan. The horse for the Most Merciful is the one that is kept tied for the path of Allah; its fodder, even its dung and urine—the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned many things about it—there is reward in all of them. The satanic horse is the one on which gambling is played and (according to the ways of ignorance) bets are placed. The human’s horse is the one that a person keeps so that it may produce offspring and his needs may be covered (that is, through it the needs of the household are fulfilled).
