It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him), a member of the Banu Taghlib tribe, that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no tax upon Muslims; however, tax is imposed upon Jews and Christians.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... The singular of ‘ushur is ‘ashr, which means one-tenth. By this is meant one-tenth of merchandise for trade and the like. We have rendered its conceptual meaning as "tax." Such a tax may be collected from non-Muslims as specified in the agreement; otherwise, it is not permissible.
