بَابُ أَخْذِ الْجِزْيَةِ مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ وَقَوْلِهِ عَزَّوَجَلَّ: «قَاتِلُوا الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَلَا بِالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ حَتَّى يُعْطُوا الْجِزْيَةَ عَنْ يَّدِ وَهُمْ صَاغِرُونَ»Chapter on Taking Jizyah from the Disbelievers and the Saying of Allah the Exalted: "Fight those who do not believe in Allah or the Last Day... until they pay the jizyah with willing submission and feel themselves subdued"

عَنْ صَالِحٍ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَوْفٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ حَلِيفُ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ وَكَانَ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ إِلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ يَأْتِي بِجِزْيَتِهَا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ صَالَحَ أَهْلَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمْ الْعَلَاءَ بْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ فَقَدِمَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بِمَالٍ مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَسَمِعَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ بِقُدُومِهِ فَوَافَتْ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ انْصَرَفَ فَتَعَرَّضُوا لَهُ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ رَآهُمْ فَقَالَ أَظُنُّكُمْ قَدْ سَمِعْتُمْ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ قَدْ جَاءَ وَجَاءَ بِشَيْءٍ قَالُوا أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَأَبْشِرُوا وَأَمِّلُوا مَا يَسُرُّكُمْ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا الْفَقْرَ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَكِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ تُبْسَطَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَتَنَافَسُوهَا كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا وَتُلْهِيكُمْ كَمَا أَلْهَتْهُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Amr bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), who was an ally of Banu Amir bin Lu'ayy and had participated in the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), informed him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) to Bahrain to collect jizyah from them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had made a treaty with those people and had appointed Sayyiduna Alaa bin Hadrami (may Allah be pleased with him) as their leader. When Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) returned with the wealth from Bahrain and the Ansar came to know of his arrival, they performed the Fajr prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the Fajr prayer and turned towards the companions, the Ansari people came before him. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them, he smiled and said: I think you have heard that Abu Ubaidah has returned with wealth? They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Rejoice and hope for that which will make you happy. By Allah, I do not fear poverty for you, but I fear that the world will be opened up for you as it was opened up for those before you, and you will compete in it as they competed, and it will distract you as it distracted them.
