Hadith 5153

عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَمَّا خَرَجَ الْمَجُوسِيُّ مِنْ عِنْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَأَلْتُهُ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَيَّرَهُ بَيْنَ الْجِزْيَةِ وَالْقَتْلِ فَاخْتَارَ الْجِزْيَةَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: When the Magian left from the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I questioned him. He informed me that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the choice between paying jizya and being killed, and he accepted the jizya.
