Hadith 5152

It is narrated from Bajalah Tamimi, he says: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did not know about taking jizya from the Magians, until Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) testified that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had taken jizya from the Magians of Hajar.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Since in the verse mentioned in the chapter only the People of the Book are mentioned, therefore, Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu acted upon the apparent meaning of this verse and did not take jizyah from the Magians, until Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman ibn Awf radi Allahu anhu testified that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had indeed taken jizyah from the Magians of Hajar.
