Hadith 5095

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that during the Battle of the Trench, the Muslims killed a polytheist. They wanted to give wealth in exchange for his corpse, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding this: "Hand over their corpse to them; this corpse is impure and its compensation is also impure." Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not accept anything from them in exchange for it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Imam Mubarakpuri rahimahullah said: It is understood from this that it is not permissible to sell the corpse of a polytheist, because it is considered carrion (maytah), ownership of which and taking compensation for it is not permissible at all. The Lawgiver (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has declared the price of carrion and idols to be unlawful. Imam Bukhari, in his Sahih, established this chapter: "Chapter: Throwing the corpses of the polytheists into the well and not taking any price for them" (Bāb Tarḥ Jiyaf al-Mushrikīn fī al-Bi’r wa Lā Yu’khadh Lahum Thaman). Then, in this chapter, he mentioned the hadith according to which the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) supplicated against Abu Jahl and other chiefs of Quraysh. (This supplication was accepted and) those chiefs were killed in the Battle of Badr and were thrown into a well. (Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi: 5/307)
