It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to distribute the spoils of war, he would order Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), so he would announce three times (that whoever has anything from the spoils of war should present it). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished distributing the spoils of war, then a man came with a rope that is tied from the nostril to the rein, and he said: O Messenger of Allah! This is also from the spoils of war, I had taken it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: Did you not hear that Bilal announced about it three times? He said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then what prevented you from bringing it? He presented an excuse, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Now I will never accept it, and you yourself will have to pay it in full on the Day of Resurrection.
