It is narrated from Salim bin Abdullah that he was with Muslamah bin Abdul Malik in the region of Rome. Some dishonest goods were found among a man's belongings. Muslamah asked Salim bin Abdullah about this. He said: Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you find dishonest goods among someone's belongings, burn his belongings." The narrator says: I think the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "And beat him as well." So when they brought his belongings out to the market, they saw that there was also a Mushaf (copy of the Qur'an) among them, so they again asked Salim, to which he replied: "Sell it and give its price in charity."
