It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Taghlib (may Allah be pleased with him) that some wealth was received by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave it to some people and did not give it to others. News reached him (peace and blessings be upon him) that those who were not given had criticized this. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit, praised and glorified Allah, and said: "Indeed, I give to some people and do not give to others. I grant to some men and leave others, but those whom I leave are more beloved to me than those to whom I give. I give to those whose hearts have anxiety, distress, impatience, and restlessness, and I entrust some people to the richness and goodness that Allah Almighty has placed in their hearts. And Amr bin Taghlib is among them." Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "I was sitting in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I would not like to have red camels in exchange for this statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Allah Ta’ala has mentioned one category among the recipients of zakat in {وَالْمُؤَلَّفَۃِ قُلُوْبُھُمْ}, which includes three types of people: (1) Those disbelievers who are inclined towards Islam and it is hoped that, due to financial assistance, they will embrace Islam. (2) Those new Muslims whose support is intended to encourage them to remain steadfast in Islam. (3) Those non-Muslim individuals from whom it is hoped that they will prevent the people of their region from attacking the Muslims, and furthermore, that they will, in some way, protect the weak Muslims. The ruler of the time may also distribute war booty with this objective in mind. This hadith is describing precisely this matter: that new Muslims should be shown as much kindness as possible so that, in return for this favor, they may remain firm in faith and conviction and become true protectors of Islam.
