It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ubada (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was going to attack enemy territory, he would give an extra fourth share, and when returning and the people were tired, he would give an extra third share. In fact, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked extra shares and said: The strong believer should return (his share) to the weak ones.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of this blessed hadith is that the warriors (mujahideen) should not be greedy for an extra share, and in this matter, they should adopt the path of selflessness (ithar), so that the weaker fighters may also receive a share equal to that of the stronger warriors. Furthermore, another meaning of this hadith could be that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to give extra shares to the mujahideen due to their additional striving and effort, but it was his desire that, giving preference to all members of the army of Islam, they should refrain from accepting them, so that everyone may receive an equal share.
