Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In these hadiths, another exceptional case of the distribution of war booty (mal-e-ghanīmah) has been described: when the army of Islam was proceeding towards its objective and, along the way, a detachment (sariyyah) was separated and sent towards some surrounding area, then whatever war booty they brought back, a fourth portion was given to them in addition, and the remaining three portions were distributed equally among all the fighters. If this situation occurred upon returning from jihad, then a third portion was given in addition. However, before this third or fourth portion, the khumus (one-fifth) must be taken out.
