Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), when Najdah Haruri wrote a letter to him and asked about five matters, one of the questions was: Did women participate in jihad with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote in reply: Indeed, women used to go out in jihad with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and they would treat the sick, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not allocate a share for them like the other fighters, but he would give them a little from the spoils of war as a gift.
