. (Second chain) Sayyiduna Jubair and Sayyiduna Uthman, may Allah be pleased with them both, came to speak to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, because he, peace and blessings be upon him, had distributed the spoils of Hunayn among Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib. So they said: O Messenger of Allah! You have distributed wealth among our brothers, Banu Muttalib and Banu Abd Manaf, but you have not given us anything, even though our relationship to you is the same as theirs. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I consider Hashim and Muttalib as one. Sayyiduna Jubair, may Allah be pleased with him, said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not give anything from this share to Banu Abd Shams and Banu Nawfal; he, peace and blessings be upon him, distributed this wealth among Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Jubayr radi Allahu anhu was from Banu Nawfal and Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu was from Banu Abd Shams, while Abd Shams, Nawfal, Hashim, and Muttalib were all equal in being from Banu Abd Manaf. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself was from Banu Hashim, but the kinship that Banu Muttalib had with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was the same kinship that Banu Abd Shams and Banu Nawfal had. Yet, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave Banu Abbas superiority and distinction, and considered them and Banu Hashim as one group, because Banu Abbas supported and aided Banu Hashim, both in the time of Jahiliyyah and after it, whereas Banu Abd Shams and Banu Nawfal remained separate from Banu Hashim, and even fought against them.
