Hadith 5023

(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ دُلِّيَ جِرَابٌ مِنْ شَحْمٍ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ قَالَ فَالْتَزَمْتُهُ قُلْتُ لَا أُعْطِي أَحَدًا مِنْهُ شَيْئًا قَالَ فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَبَسَّمُ قَالَ بَهَزٌ إِلَيَّ
(On the authority of another chain) On the day of Khaybar, a waterskin of fat was hung up. I clung to it and said: I will not give anyone anything from it. Then when I turned towards the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he was smiling.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the narration of Abu Dawud, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, granting permission to that man, said: ((Huwa laka.)) … This is for you. From this chapter, it is understood that war booty (mal-e-ghanīmah) and fay’ property (mal-e-fay’) have been made lawful for the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and his ummah, and it is not permissible to take from this wealth before its distribution, except if the Imam grants permission for a specific item.
