Hadith 4976

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not wish to meet the enemies, but when you encounter them, be patient. In another narration it is stated: Because you do not know what will happen in that battle (therefore do not wish for it).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Certainly, jihad is a means of reward and merit, but it is a difficult and testing act. The army of Islam may achieve victory or may face defeat, and defeat itself can take several forms. Therefore, one should not desire to confront the enemy. However, when war breaks out, then all kinds of dangers should be set aside and one should enter the battlefield.
