Hadith 4940

عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ سَمَّى الْحَرْبَ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِ خُدْعَةً قَالَ رَحْمَوَيْهِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّكُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Allah Almighty has called war by the name of deception on the tongue of His Prophet.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Deception in battle is considered as such in the sense that something else is outwardly expressed, while the hidden matter is different. However, any deception by which a covenant or guarantee of safety is broken will be unlawful.
