It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out an army and appointed an Ansari man as their commander. When the army set out, for some reason their commander became angry with them. So he said to them: Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) not command you to obey me? They said: Yes, indeed. He said: Then gather firewood. Then he had a fire lit and said to them: I strongly urge you to enter this fire. Some people intended to enter it, but among them a young man said: (Be sensible) You went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to escape from the fire, so do not be hasty in this matter until you meet the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (and ask him about this). If the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commands you to enter this fire, then enter it. So when they returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of the incident, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you had entered it, you would never have come out of it. Obedience to the commander is only in matters of goodness. In another narration: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to those who intended to enter the fire: If you had entered it, you would have remained in it until the Day of Resurrection. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke well of the others and said: There is no obedience in disobedience to Allah; obedience is only in good matters. In another narration: There is no obedience to any human being in disobedience to Allah Almighty.
