Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Debt pertains to the rights of people (huquq al-‘ibad), therefore its forgiveness depends on the concerned individual. From these ahadith, one should realize the importance of the rights of people, that even the greatest good deed performed for the pleasure of Allah Ta‘ala will not result in the forgiveness of these rights. As narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Whoever has wronged his brother with regard to his honor or anything else, let him seek his forgiveness from him today, before there will be neither dinar nor dirham. If he has good deeds, they will be taken from him in proportion to his wrongdoing; and if he has no good deeds, the sins of his companion will be taken and loaded upon him.”
