It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! If I am martyred in the way of Allah, while my condition is that I am patient, have come with the intention of reward, and am advancing forward, not turning my back, will Allah make this deed an expiation for my sins? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you are martyred in this state, that you are patient, have come with the intention of reward, and are advancing forward, not turning your back, then Allah will make this deed an expiation for your sins, except for debt. Jibreel (peace be upon him) has informed me of this in the same way.
