Hadith 4850

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, cities will be conquered for you, then (for jihad) there will be a need to send many armies, but a man will refuse to go in that army, then he will leave his people and present himself to other tribes and say: For such and such army, who will suffice for me? Beware! This person will remain a laborer until the last drop of his blood is shed.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of this blessed hadith is that when Islam spreads everywhere and the caliph needs to send armies to various regions, this person will not be willing to go forth. By making excuses, he will leave his own people and present himself to various tribes so that they may offer him a suitable wage. The fighting of such a person will be for the sake of the world, not for the elevation of the religion. The status of such a person is that of a worldly laborer, not that of a warrior (ghazi) or a martyr (shaheed).
