It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), who says: There was a man with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a certain battle. He displayed great bravery in the battle, and the Muslims were amazed at his courage. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about him: Beware! Indeed, he is among the people of the Fire. We said: He is with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the path of Allah; in any case, Allah and His Messenger know best. The man left, and when the pain from his wounds became severe, he placed his chest on the edge of his sword and pressed down on it from above. A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: The man about whom you spoke in this way, I saw him moving, and the sword was embedded in his bones. Upon hearing this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, a man continues to do the deeds of the people of Paradise, to the extent that it appears to the people (that he is of Paradise), while he is among the people of the Fire. Likewise, a man, according to the people, does the deeds of the people of the Fire, while he is among the people of Paradise. In reality, the outcome of deeds depends upon their conclusion.
