Hadith 4845

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man said: O Messenger of Allah! A man intends to perform jihad in the way of Allah, but in the meantime he also wants to acquire some worldly goods. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no reward for him. When this was hard for the people, they said to that man: Ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) again, perhaps he did not understand your question. He asked again and said: O Messenger of Allah! I am saying that a man intends to perform jihad in the way of Allah, but he also seeks worldly goods. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no reward for him. The man repeated the question a third time, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the same answer, saying: (I am saying that) there is no reward for him.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The most difficult action is maintaining sincerity (ikhlas) and correcting the direction of intention, especially in the present era, because in this age, blameworthy traits such as haste, ostentation, flattery, pursuit of worldly gain, and greed are prevalent, and all these things are contrary to sincerity.
