It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are two types of Jihad: (1) The person who seeks the pleasure of Allah Almighty, obeys the leader, spends good wealth, makes things easy for his companion, and avoids corruption—such a person's sleeping and waking, in short, everything is a source of reward. (2) The one who does Jihad out of pride and for show, disobeys the leader, and spreads corruption in the land—he will not return with any reward at all.
