It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was walking, then he inclined towards a soft spot beside a wall and urinated there. Then he said: "When any man from the Children of Israel would urinate and if urine touched him, he would cut off that part with scissors." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Therefore, when any of you urinates, he should look for a soft place."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In Sahih al-Bukhari (226) and Sahih Muslim (273) it is mentioned that when urine would get on their clothes, they would cut that part off. In those narrations where the word "jild" (skin) appears, what is meant is their leather garments, but some narrator, while narrating by meaning, used the word "jasad" (body). (See: Fath al-Bari) The narration about seeking a soft place is weak, but in this regard, the intent of the Shari‘ah is that a person, when relieving himself, should choose such a place and such a method that his body and clothes remain safe from urine and feces.
