It is narrated from Hamzah bin Suhaib that Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) had adopted the kunyah (patronymic) of Abu Yahya, and he used to say that he was from among the Arabs, and he used to feed food in large quantities. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: O Suhaib! What has happened to you, you have adopted the kunyah of Abu Yahya while you have no children, and you say that you are from among the Arabs, and you feed food in large quantities—this is extravagance in wealth? Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me this kunyah.
