عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَدِمْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَيْسَ اسْمِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ فَسَمَّانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَامٍ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: When I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), my name was not Abdullah bin Salam, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) named me Abdullah bin Salam.

Benefits: … In a narration of Tabarani, it is mentioned: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam radi Allahu anhu said: In the days of ignorance (jahiliyyah), my name was Ghailan, then the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam changed my name to Abdullah.
