عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيَّرَ اسْمَ عَاصِيَةَ قَالَ أَنْتِ جَمِيلَةُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) changed the name of Asiyah and said: You are Jameelah.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The literal meaning of ‘Aas’ and ‘Aasiyah’ is disobedient. The Arabs would choose such names to express arrogance and a sense of superiority.
