Hadith 476

(وَمِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ قَالَ: خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَقِيَهُ حُذَيْفَةُ بْنُ الْيَمَّانِ فَحَادَ عَنْهُ فَاغْتَسَلَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ، فَقَالَ: ((مَا لَكَ؟)) قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! كُنْتُ جُنُبًا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمَ لَا يَنْجُسُ))
(Second Chain) Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out and Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) met him, but he turned aside from there, performed ghusl (ritual bath), and came back again. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What happened to you?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I was in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity)." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, a Muslim does not become impure."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … These ahadith are general, encompassing both the life and death of a Muslim; however, in the following mawquf narration, the state of death is mentioned specifically:

It is narrated from Abdullah ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “There is no ritual bath (ghusl) required of you after washing your deceased, when you have washed him. Indeed, your deceased is a believer, pure (tahir), and not impure (najis). It is sufficient for you to wash your hands.” (Bayhaqi: 1/398, Hakim: 1/386, Ahkam al-Jana’iz: p. 53, 54)

Similarly, the act of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) shaving his head and distributing his hair among the Companions can also serve as evidence for this matter. The majority of scholars hold the view that a deceased human is pure (tahir); however, the Hanafis have considered the deceased to be impure (najis), but this opinion is weak.
