Hadith 4731

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Kurz Ka'biyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while I had gone to buy meat, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For a boy, two goats and for a girl, one goat; it does not matter whether they are male or female. And I also heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Let the bird sit in its place.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of the last sentence is that you should not take bad or good omens through birds. The manner of this was that when a person intended to carry out some task, he would make a sitting bird fly; if it flew to the right, he would consider it a sign of success and begin the task, but if it flew to the left, he would consider it a sign of failure and abandon the task.
