عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نُعِقَّ عَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةً وَعَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَيْنِ وَأَمَرَنَا بِالْفَرَعِ مِنْ كُلِّ خَمْسِ شِيَاهٍ شَاةٌ
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to sacrifice one goat for a girl and two goats for a boy as ‘Aqiqah. He also commanded us to sacrifice one goat as Fara’ out of every five goats.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The word "shaah" applies to both species, goat and sheep; therefore, for ‘aqiqah, any animal among a male goat, female goat, sheep, or ram may be slaughtered.
