It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to carefully observe the eyes and ears and not to sacrifice those animals which are cross-eyed, have an ear cut from the front, have an ear cut from the back, have an ear split lengthwise, have a round hole in the ear, or have a cut nose. Zuhair says: I asked Abu Ishaq, did they mention ‘Azba’? He said: No. I said: What kind of animal is Muqabalah? He said: The one whose ear is cut at the edge. I said: What kind of animal is Mudabarah? He said: The one whose ear is cut from the back. Then he said: The ear of the animal used to be cut as a mark.
