Hadith 4638

Ziyad bin Jubair says: I was with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) in Mina, when he passed by a man who was slaughtering his sacrificial animal while it was sitting. So he said: Make it stand up and (slaughter it) while it is standing and tied, and follow the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The camel is made to stand and then slaughtered by nahr. The method is that the standing animal is stabbed in the throat with a knife or similar instrument; when a sufficient amount of blood has flowed, the animal falls down by itself, after which it is slaughtered. The prescribed (masnun) act for a camel is nahr; however, if necessary, there is no harm in performing regular slaughter (dhabh) as well.
