It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hajjaj bin Amr Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever's bone is broken or becomes lame, he will become lawful (i.e., released from Ihram), but the following year another Hajj will be obligatory upon him. Ikrimah says: When I informed Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas and Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with them) of this, they said: Yes, he has spoken the truth.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Iḥṣār refers to a situation where the person in the state of iḥrām is unable to reach the House of Allah, whether due to an obstacle created by an enemy—as occurred during the ‘Umrah of Hudaybiyyah—or due to an illness or similar circumstance that renders a person so incapacitated that he cannot continue the journey. In both cases, if he has a sacrificial animal with him, it should be slaughtered; and if it is possible to send the animal to the Haram, then it should be sent. After slaughtering the animal, he should shave his head (have his hair cut, i.e., perform ḥalāq or taqsīr) and become lawful (i.e., exit the state of iḥrām). If it was an obligatory Hajj, then he must perform it again in the future, provided he has the ability; otherwise, he is excused. The same ruling applies to ‘Umrah.
