Hadith 4571

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said at the beginning of the day on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah, while he was in Mina: "Tomorrow we will stay at Khayf Bani Kinana, where the disbelievers had sworn oaths against the Muslims." By this, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, meant the valley of Muhassab. The details of this are that the Quraysh and Banu Kinana had made an agreement at this place against Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib that they would neither marry with them nor buy or sell with them until they handed over the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to them.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … “We will stay tomorrow at Khayf Bani Kinana.” According to this hadith, this would be the eleventh of Dhu al-Hijjah, whereas until the thirteenth of Dhu al-Hijjah, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was to remain in Mina. The real matter is that although the term “ghadan” (tomorrow) is generally applied to the day immediately following the present day, the Arabs broadened its usage and applied this word to any coming time as well, and here this is the intended meaning, because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was to depart from Mina after the days of Tashreeq. From this blessed hadith, it is understood that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stayed in the valley of Muhassab with great care and determination; his purpose in this was to manifest and establish Islam. This stay was not coincidental. In the coming ahadith, the opinions of Sayyida Aisha radi Allahu anha and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu regarding staying in this valley are mentioned; these are their personal understandings, and the reason is that they were not aware of the aforementioned hadith. Further discussion will be presented at the end of the chapter.
