Abu Nadrah says: The person who heard the sermon of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in the middle of the days of Tashreeq narrated to me, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O people! Your Lord is one and your father is one. Beware! No Arab has any superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have any superiority over an Arab; neither a white person over a black person, nor a black person over a white person—except by piety. Have I conveyed the message of Allah to you? The companions said: The Messenger of Allah has conveyed the message of Allah. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked: What day is this today? The companions said: Today is a sacred day. He asked: What month is this? The companions replied: This is a sacred month. Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, inquired: What city is this? The companions said: This is a sacred city. He said: Allah the Exalted has made your blood, your wealth, and your honor forbidden to one another, just as the sanctity of this day, in this month, in this city. Have I conveyed the message of Allah to you? The companions said: The Messenger of Allah has conveyed the message. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Those who are present here should convey these words to those who are not present.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The initial part of the blessed hadith is extremely worthy of reflection. People have come to regard lineage and ancestry, beauty and appearance, rank and position, politics and leadership, wealth and riches, high-salaried jobs, degrees of worldly education, and other such worldly means as symbols of honor. In fact, some devils even consider crimes such as thuggery, rebellion, oppression, robbery, and murder as sources of honor for themselves. The greatest cause of this corruption is that people have tried to prove themselves outwardly honorable and great, while forgetting the rectification of their inner selves. Whereas the law of the Shari‘ah was that if one rectifies the inner self and, along with that, keeps the outward in accordance with the light of the Shari‘ah, then such honors are attained that a person cannot even imagine them according to his own thoughts. But alas, if only our temperament considered the Shari‘ah as our necessity. Whereas, in the light of the pure Shari‘ah, there is an element of trial in all these matters and means; as for the issue of status, rank, virtue, and greatness, it is found solely and exclusively in practically adhering to the Qur’an and Hadith.
