Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said during the Farewell Pilgrimage: "O people! What day is this?" The companions replied, "It is a sacred day." He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "What city is this?" The companions replied, "It is a sacred city." He (peace and blessings be upon him) then asked, "What month is this?" The companions replied, "It is a sacred month." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your wealth, your blood, and your honor are as sacred to one another as the sanctity of this day, in this city, and in this month." He repeated these words several times. After that, he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head towards the sky and said several times, "Have I conveyed the message to the people?" Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: "By Allah! This was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entrusting Allah with a will regarding the rights of the Ummah." After this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware! Those who are present should convey these words to those who are not present. O people! Do not turn to disbelief after me, striking the necks of one another."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The narration of Sahih Bukhari clarifies that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam delivered this sermon on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah. The meaning of these ahadith is that we should at the very least respect and safeguard the life, wealth, and honor of a Muslim to such an extent that they are not harmed by any of our actions. How beautifully and explicitly the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, by asking three different questions, set the preamble and then repeatedly clarified the sanctity of a Muslim’s blood, wealth, and honor. However, the situation in our society is such that there is absolutely no regard for wealth and honor; it is a separate matter that, by the grace and mercy of Allah Ta’ala, the common Muslim remains safe from the crime of murder, although killing and bloodshed are also widespread.
This, from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, for the sake of the ummah—in Sahih Bukhari: (1739), the Arabic words are: “inna ha l-wasiyyata, ila ummatihi,” that this (that those present should convey my words to those absent) was a bequest from the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam for his own ummah.
