It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah and said: Which day is the most sacred? The companions said: Today, that is, the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Which month is the most sacred? The companions said: This month of Dhul-Hijjah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Which city is the most sacred? They said: Our city, that is, Makkah Mukarramah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Your blood and wealth are forbidden to one another just as the sanctity of this city, this month, and this day is sacred. Have I conveyed the message of Allah Almighty to you? The companions said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! Bear witness.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Such addresses and lessons were arranged for admonition and advice, because this was the largest gathering in the blessed life of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and it was a golden opportunity for the propagation of the Shari‘ah rulings. This is because the vast majority of those participating in this gathering had been deprived of prolonged companionship with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, while the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had also expressed on the occasion of this Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajjat al-Wada‘) that the time of his passing was near. And so it happened: the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam met his True Creator approximately ninety (90) days later.
