عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ وَعَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ (ابْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَصَّرَ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ بِمِشْقَصٍ فَقُلْنَا لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: مَا بَلَغَنَا هَذَا إِلَّا عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ: مَا كَانَ مُعَاوِيَةُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُتَّهَمًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) informed him that he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cut his hair with a broad blade. Mujahid and Ata say: We said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): This report has only reached us from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). He replied: Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) is not to be suspected regarding the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (i.e., he is truthful in conveying this report).
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The incident of Sayyiduna Muawiyah radi Allahu anhu cutting the hair of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam pertains to the ‘Umrah of Ji‘irrana; its details have already been mentioned in Hadith number (4200). On the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajjat al-Wada‘), the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, after pelting the Jamrah ‘Aqabah, performed the sacrifices and then had his head shaved.
