Hadith 452

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyida Umm Fadl bint Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) brought Sayyida Umm Habibah bint Abbas (may Allah be pleased with her) and placed her in the lap of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then she urinated, so she (Umm Fadl) pulled her away and struck her between her shoulders and then pulled her again. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give me a bowl of water." Then he poured it over the place of urine and said: "Pour water over the place of urine."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From these ahadith, it is clearly understood that as long as the predominant nourishment of a boy or girl is milk, the methods of attaining purity from their urine will differ, and that is as follows: for a boy’s urine, so much water should be sprinkled that the affected area becomes wet; squeezing is not necessary, and the urine of a girl should be washed just as that of adults. Imam Abu Hanifah and his companions do not accept this distinction; rather, they consider it necessary to wash the urine of both boy and girl. However, the ahadith that clearly establish this distinction do not support their opinion. The point to be made is that which things are impure (najis), this has been determined by the Shari‘ah, and now how these impurities are to be removed, this decision will also be made by the Shari‘ah. If any specification is established in this matter, then it must be accepted.
