عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ نُبَيْطٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَكَانَ قَدْ حَجَّ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُهُ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ عَلَى بَعِيرِهِ (وَفِي لَفْظٍ:) رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ عَشِيَّةَ عَرَفَةَ عَلَى جَمَلٍ أَحْمَرَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Nabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He says that he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering a sermon on the Day of Arafah while mounted on a camel. In another narration, the words are: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering a sermon after the decline of the sun on the Day of Arafah, mounted on a red camel.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The term "‘ashiyyah" applies to the time from after midday (zawal) until sunset. In the narration of Sunan al-Nasa’i, it is mentioned that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam delivered this sermon before the (Dhuhr) prayer. In the hadith narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu in Sahih Muslim, the same matter is stated: that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam delivered the sermon before the prayer.
