Narrated by Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: My camel was lost in Arafah, I was searching for it when I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) standing in Arafah and I said: He is a Quraishi, what is he doing here?

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Qadi Iyad said: This incident pertains to a Hajj before the Hijrah, at which time Sayyiduna Jubayr was a disbeliever, and he accepted Islam at the time of the Conquest of Makkah or the Battle of Khaybar. He was astonished that you, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, though a Qurayshi, were standing at Arafat. The first hadith of the next chapter supports this point. In the pre-Islamic era, the Quraysh would abandon the standing at Arafat and remain at Muzdalifah, saying: “We are the Hums, so we will not leave the Haram,” while all the other people would go to Arafat and perform the standing there. “Hums” is derived from “tahammus,” which means severity and being strict and firm in religion; by this is meant the Quraysh and those tribes who had adopted severity in religion like them. The standing at Arafat is the most well-known pillar of Hajj; if it is missed, the Hajj is invalidated.
How should the standing on this day be performed? Its explanation is coming in the next chapter.
