عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: مَنْ قَدِمَ حَاجًّا وَطَافَ بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَقَدِ انْقَضَتْ حَجَّتُهُ، وَصَارَتْ عُمْرَةً كَذَلِكَ سُنَّةُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَسُنَّةُ رَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that those people who have come with the intention of Hajj and have performed the Tawaf of the House of Allah and the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, their Hajj is complete and their action has become ‘Umrah; this is the Sunnah of Allah Almighty and His Messenger.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In reality, it was the opinion of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu that the one performing Hajj Ifrad should not perform the circumambulation (tawaf), otherwise he would have to convert his Hajj (to another type), just as the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had commanded the Companions to do. Here, he is expressing that same opinion. However, the majority of the scholars do not agree with this opinion of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhuma.
